Online Child Protection Policy

AHPPI is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people who engage with our online mentorship and coaching services. This policy outlines our commitment to protecting children from harm and ensuring a safe online environment.

The purpose of this policy is to:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people using our services.
- Provide guidance to staff, mentors, and coaches on safeguarding practices.
- Establish clear procedures for reporting concerns about child welfare.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, mentors, coaches, and anyone else who may interact with children and young people through our online services.

This policy is informed by:
- The Children Act 1989 and 2004
- The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006

- The Children and Families Act 2014
- The Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
5. Definitions
- Child: Any person under the age of 18.
- Safeguarding: Protecting children from abuse and neglect, ensuring their health, development, and well-being.
6. Recruitment and Training
- All staff, mentors, and coaches will undergo a thorough recruitment process, including background checks (DBS checks) where applicable.
- Staff and mentors will receive training on safeguarding and child protection, including recognising signs of abuse and how to respond to concerns.
7. Code of Conduct
All staff, mentors, and coaches are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:
- Maintain professional boundaries with mentees.
- Avoid sharing personal contact information with mentees.
- Use language and behavior that is respectful and supportive.
- Report any suspected abuse or inappropriate behavior immediately.
8. Communication Guidelines
- All communication with children and young people should take place through official channels and platforms provided by AHPPI.
- Mentors and coaches must not engage in private messaging or social media interactions with mentees outside of the approved platforms.
9. Reporting Concerns
- If a mentor, coach, or staff member has concerns about a child’s welfare, they must report it immediately to the designated safeguarding lead (DSL).
- The DSL is responsible for responding to concerns, which may involve contacting local authorities or child protection services if necessary.
10. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
- Information regarding safeguarding concerns will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
- Information may be shared with relevant authorities if it is in the best interest of the child.
11. Monitoring and Review
- This policy will be reviewed annually or as needed in response to changes in legislation or best practices.
- Feedback from staff, mentors, and children will be considered in the review process.
